Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Meridian, Mississippi!
Lauderdale County’s Meridian -- marketing itself a "Carousel of Culture" in the "heart of the New South" -- ranks as Mississippi’s first city joining the animals-on-parade trend, with more than 40 commissioned horse sculptures mounted around town and at the welcome center. The carousel icon reflects Meridian’s historic Dentzel Carousel, the world’s only two-row stationary Dentzel menagerie model displayed at Highland Park. Cultural enjoyment comes via the Meridian Little Theatre, Meridian Museum of Art, and the 40-year-old Meridian Symphony Orchestra. Merrehope, a 20-room Victorian mansion, was once a Confederate headquarters for General Leonidas Polk and spared by Union General William T. Sherman. Other attractions include Bonita Lakes, a 3,300-acre park and future home of the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center, that includes three lakes, a reservoir, golf, nature trails, jogging, biking, and more. The 1895 Causeyville General Store, on the National Register of Historic Places, still does brisk business. Country music’s Jimmie Rodgers was born and raised around Meridian, and both a museum and the Oak Grove Cemetery grave site honor his memory. Other historic area graveyards include the Confederate Cemetery, Temple Beth Israel Cemetery, Oddfellows Cemetery, and the Sam Dale Monument and Grave Site, named for General Sam Dale, riding from Georgia to the Battle of New Orleans with a message for Andrew Jackson. Meridian boasts a treasure trove of antique store and flea market shopping opportunity. Area lodging includes extensive budget and mid-priced options, bed and breakfasts, and conference center facilities.
